Privacy policy

1. Who I am

I’m Sparsh Saini, and theplanetofyourself.com is the website for my book, The Planet of Yourself, and my weekly letter, Dear 15. I run it myself from New South Wales, Australia. This policy explains what I collect when you use the site, why, and who else handles it. By using the site, you agree to what’s described here.

2. What I collect

I only collect what you give me, plus basic information about how the site is used:

  • Dear 15 signups: when you join Dear 15, from any signup form on the site or from the free chapter page, I collect your email address.
  • Contact form: when you write to me, I collect your name, your email address, the topic you choose, and your message.
  • Usage data: Google Analytics records how visitors use the site, such as pages visited, time on each page, device and browser type, and approximate location. It also records a few events, such as when someone signs up, confirms their email, or opens the free chapter. I see this as totals, not as a record of who you are.

I don’t ask for payment details or create accounts, and I don’t sell anything on this site.

3. How I use it

  • To send you Dear 15, one letter a week, and occasional news about the book.
  • To reply to your message.
  • To understand which pages help people, and to improve the site.

I don’t sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

4. Dear 15 and your email

Dear 15 is sent through Kit (formerly ConvertKit). When you sign up, your email address is stored by Kit, and Kit sends you an email to confirm it. Kit may record whether you open the letters and click the links in them. Every letter has a link to unsubscribe, and you can leave at any time. If you unsubscribe, you won’t hear from me again unless you sign up again.

5. Cookies and browser storage

The site keeps a few small pieces of information in your browser:

  • Google Analytics cookies, which tell visits apart so usage can be counted.
  • A note that you’ve confirmed your Dear 15 signup (a cookie called tpoy_confirmed that lasts one year, and the same note in your browser’s local storage). This is what opens the free chapter for you without asking again. While you’re waiting to confirm, the site also remembers the page you were on so it can bring you back to it.
  • A marker set by Kit’s form script that you’ve already signed up.

None of these hold your name or email address. You can clear or block them in your browser settings. If you do, the site still works, but the free chapter may ask you to sign up again.

6. Third-party services

The site relies on these services, each of which handles data under its own privacy policy:

  • Kit, for the Dear 15 newsletter and signups. Kit privacy policy
  • Formspree, for the contact form. Formspree privacy policy
  • Google Analytics, for usage data. Google privacy policy
  • Google Fonts, which serves the site’s typefaces. Your browser requests them from Google, so Google receives your IP address.
  • SiteGround, which hosts the site and keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested.

Some of these services store data outside Australia, including in the United States.

The site also links to YouTube, Instagram and Medium. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and nothing from them loads until you follow a link.

7. Keeping it safe

Your information is held by the services above, which have their own security measures. I take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and I keep it only as long as I need it: your email for as long as you’re subscribed, and messages for as long as the conversation needs them.

8. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Ask what personal information I hold about you.
  • Ask me to correct or delete it.
  • Unsubscribe from Dear 15 at any time, using the link in any letter.
  • Clear or block cookies in your browser.

To make a request, email me at contact@theplanetofyourself.com. If you’re not satisfied with my answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to this policy

If the site changes what it collects, I’ll update this policy and the date at the top.
